L.A. Girl in the Middle of the Map

After several years of living in England, Keni decided to move back to the United States. She initially moved to San Antonio, Texas but soon found her way to Junction City, Kansas to stay with her cousin Jakari at the Fort Riley military base. Keni, a Los Angeles native, was not quite sure what to make of the Midwest but decided to do some online networking and see what the area had to offer. After scouring a sea of individuals with baseball caps, jerseys, cowboy hats, and hunting gear, she stumbled onto a musician fellow with long hair by the name of Miah. She decided she’d reach out to him and see if he’d like to have a “chin wag” as she referred to conversation after living in England for so long. Miah was flattered by Keni’s interest and assured her there were plenty of fun things to do in Kansas City. He happily volunteered to be her chauffeur and tour guide so that she could get acclimated to the region.

The Story Begins

During numerous trips out to Junction City and back to Kansas City, Keni and Miah got to enjoy each other’s company, see some concerts, and spend some quality time together. It was abundantly clear early on that these two quirky and eccentric introverts had more in common than they could imagine. Both are 80s babies born the same exact year (1981). Both love music, going to concerts, and doing creative activities. Both like collecting retro memorabilia, watching cartoons, and reflecting on the good old days before smartphones and social media took the world by storm. It didn’t take long for the two to become running buddies and develop a romance. (Photo below by: Stephen McAnulla)

History in the Making

By June 2015, they were an official couple and the trend of concerts, dinner dates, and vacation adventures continued on from there. The love between the two steadily grew and the foundation for a life together was slowly being built. In June 2018, over three years after meeting and forging their relationship, Miah decided it was high time to propose to Keni and ask her to be his wife. He enlisted the help of his coworker Estuardo to do an impromptu anniversary photoshoot. Although it was a risky endeavor, Miah played the whole thing down and Keni was none the wiser to his schemes. After some lovely professional photos in front of the indoor waterfall at the Westin Crown Center hotel in downtown Kansas City, Miah got down on one knee and stunned Keni with a proposal. Keni was utterly shocked and surprised. After a few moments for the reality to sink in, Keni emphatically said yes and accepted Miah’s proposal for her hand in marriage. After an anniversary dinner in the Crossroads District of Kansas City and a weekend of telling family & friends the good news, Miah and Keni began planning their wedding. They decided not to waste any time and get right to work by setting a date of Saturday, May 18th, 2019 and reserving a venue called the Brick in San Antonio, Texas for their destination wedding.
